Bible Journaling: When the page doesn’t look perfect

✍️ In My Journal Today

Can I be honest with you?

Sometimes I sit down in my prayer closet, open my Bible, grab my journal, and the words just don’t come.

There are days when my prayers flow effortlessly across the page. Other days, I simply stare at a blank sheet of paper because my heart feels too heavy to put into words.

Maybe you’ve had days like that too.

I’ve learned that Bible journaling isn’t about creating perfect pages with beautiful lettering or colorful artwork. It’s about showing up–just as you are–and giving God whatever you’re carrying that day.

Sometimes my journal is filled with Scripture, prayers, and reflections. Other times, it’s a single verse that’s underlined three times because it’s all I have the strength to hold onto.

And you know what?

God has met me on both kinds of pages.

I’ve realized that He isn’t impressed by how beautiful my journal looks.

He’s after my heart.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
                                                                         – Psalm 34:18 (ESV)

🌿 Reflection

Something that God has been teaching me lately is that authenticity creates room for His grace.

For a long time, I thought I had to have everything together before I could encourage someone else. I thought I needed to wait until every prayer was answered or every struggle was behind me before sharing what God was doing in my life.

But that’s not how Jesus met people.

He met them in the middle of their mess.

And I believe He still does.

So if you’ve come here today carrying disappointment, grief, anxiety, uncertainty, or simply feeling tired…

I want you to know something.

You’re not reading words from someone who has life all figured out.

You’re reading the words of a woman who is learning–day by day–to trust Jesus in the middle of real life.

Some days I celebrate.

Some days I cry.

Some days I don’t understand what God is doing.

But every day…

He is faithful.

That’s why I keep opening my Bible.

That’s why I keep writing.

That’s why I keep showing up.

Because somewhere between the pages of my journal and the pages of Scripture, I always find Jesus waiting for me.

🌸 Living it Out

Today, don’t worry about creating the perfect journal page.

Just open your Bible.

Choose one verse.

Write it down.

Then write one honest sentence to God.

Not the sentence you think sounds spiritual.

The real one.

Because God already knows your heart, and He delights in meeting you there.

🙏🏾 Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for loving me exactly where I am. Thank You that I don’t have to pretend to be stronger than I feel or have every answer before I come into Your presence.

Teach me to be honest with You and to trust that You meet me in both my joys and my struggles. As I spend time in Your Word and in my journal, continue shaping my heart to look more like Yours.

And Lord, if these words reach even one person today who feels alone, discouraged, or forgotten, remind them that You see them, You love them, and You have never left their side.

In Jesus’ Mighty name,

Amen. 💜

💕 Reflection Question

If your journal could speak honestly today, what would it say to God?

Write it exactly as it comes to your heart.

No filters.

No perfection.

Just you and Him.

You Are Seen. You Are Loved. You Are Welcome Here.
