Digging Deeper
Have you ever found yourself trying to fix a situation that was completely beyond your control? I know I certainly have! Maybe you’ve spent countless hours replaying conversations, worrying about tomorrow, or carrying the emotional weight of circumstances you simply can’t change?! Honestly, I’ve been there more times than I’d like to admit. Let’s be real for a minute–we’ve all had moments when we’ve tried to carry burdens that were never ours to hold.
This week, God reminded me that one of the hardest lessons of faith isn’t learning how to hold on–it’s learning when we need to let go. As I spent time in my prayer closet today–praying, reading His Word, and reflecting in my journal–I found myself drawn to a verse that I’ve read many times before. Yet today, God used it to speak to my heart in a completely different way.
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth!”
–Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
🌿 Understanding the Content
Psalm 46 wasn’t written during a season of comfort or ease. It is a song of confidence in God’s protection during times of turmoil. Throughout the chapter, we read about earthquakes, mountains trembling, roaring waters, and nations in chaos. Everything around God’s people appeared unstable.
Yet in the middle of all that uncertainty comes God’s invitation:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
This wasn’t simply a call to sit quietly. The phrase be still carries the idea of ceasing our striving, loosening our grip on what we cannot control, and recognizing God’s absolute authority.
In other words, God is saying:
“Stop trying to carry what belongs to Me. Remember who I am.”

How often do we exhaust ourselves trying to control outcomes that belong to God?
We replay conversations in our minds, search for answers we don’t have, and feel responsible for changing people or circumstances that are beyond our reach.
But Psalm 46 reminds us that our peace isn’t found in controlling our lives–it’s found in trusting the One who already does.
Being still doesn’t mean becoming passive or ignoring our responsibilities. It means surrendering our need to control every outcome and resting in the confidence that God is always working, even when we cannot see it.
The more time I spend in my prayer closet, the more I realize that God is not asking me to understand everything He is doing. He’s asking me to trust Him while He does it!
🌱 Applying God’s Word
Ask yourself:
- What situation am I trying to control instead of surrendering to God?
- Am I spending more time worrying then praying?
- What should it look like to truly “be still” before the Lord this week?
Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is stop striving long enough to remember that God has never stopped being God.
🌸 Living It Out
Today, spend five quiet minutes with the Lord.
Leave your phone in another room.
Open your Bible.
Read Psalm 46 slowly.
Before asking God for anything, simply sit in His presence and remind yourself of who He is.
Then write one sentence in your journal answering this question:
How can I trust God more fully with the situation that’s been weighing on my heart?
🙏 Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for reminding me that You are God, and I am not. So often I become consumed with trying to fix situations, carry burdens, and understand things that are beyond my control. Forgive me for the times I’ve trusted my own strength more than Your sovereignty.
Teach me what it truly means to be still before You. Help me release my fears, quiet my anxious thoughts, and rest in the confidence that You are always working for Your glory and my good. When uncertainty surrounds me, remind me that Your character never changes. You are faithful, trustworthy, and always present.
May my heart find peace, not because my circumstances are easy, but because my eyes remain fixed on You.
