Coffee & Quiet Time: When God Rewrites Your Plans

His interruptions are often His greatest invitations.

🌅 A weekend Reflection

Can I share something personal with you?

Today I opened one of my old prayer journals on a random page. Looking at the date of the journal entry, I realized that it had been written almost exactly one year ago from today. As I sat in my prayer closet reading through those pages, I came across something I had written that immediately caught my attention.

Three simple words.

“I had plans”

At the time, I had expected my summer to look completely different. I was disappointed because I wasn’t assigned a summer bus route because the programs were limited for whatever reason. This particular summer was the first time EVER that I did not work. Financially, it didn’t make sense, and emotionally, I struggled to understand why God would allow it.

Looking back now, I can clearly see what I couldn’t see then.

God wasn’t canceling my plans.

He was lovingly rewriting them.

That unexpected season became one of the sweetest times of rest I’d experienced in years. It gave me uninterrupted time to seek the Lord, grow deeper in His Word, and strengthen my relationship with Him. When school began again, I returned refreshed, focused, and ready for the new school year and the new season that God had prepared for me.

One year later, I found myself reading those journal pages with tears of gratitude.

What once looked like a closed door had actually been the beginning of something far greater than I could have imagined.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher then your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
–– Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV)

As I reflect on my own journey, I couldn’t help but think about Joseph.

I’m sure Joseph had plans for his life.

Instead, he was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison.

If you had asked Joseph during those difficult years whether he understood what God was doing, I doubt he could have answered.

But years later, after God had raised him to a position where he could save countless lives, Joseph was able to say:

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good…”
–– Genesis 50:20 (ESV)

Joseph eventually realized something we all need to remember:

God wasn’t ruining his plans.

God was writing a better story.

✝️ Looking to Jesus

If anyone understands what it feels like when life doesn’t unfold as expected, it’s the followers of Jesus.

The disciples expected their Messiah to establish an earthly kingdom. Instead, they watched Him suffer, be crucified, and placed in a borrowed tomb.

To them, it looked like hope had been lost.

But what appeared to be the greatest defeat in history became God’s greatest vistory.

Through the cross, Jesus accomplished what no one could have imagined––our redemption, our forgiveness, and our reconciliation with the Father.

The empty tomb reminds us that God’s plans are always greater than our understanding.

When we cannot see what He’s doing, we can trust the One who sees the end from the beginning.

🌿 Living It Out

Maybe this weekend you’re grieving a closed door.

Maybe your plans haven’t unfolded the way you hoped.

Or maybe you’re sitting in the middle of a season that simply doesn’t make sense.

Can I encourage you?

Before assuming God has forgotten you, consider the possibility that He may be preparing you.

One day, you may look back and realize that what felt like an interruption was actually one of God’s greatest invitations.

🙏 Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for loving me enough to guide my life according to Your perfect wisdom instead of my limited understanding. Forgive me for the times I’ve become discouraged when my plans didn’t unfold the way I expected.

Help me trust that every closed door, every delay, and every unexpected season is still under Your sovereign care. Like Joseph, teach me to believe that You are working for good even when I cannot yet see the whole picture.

Above all, thank You for Your Son Jesus. Thank You that what looked like defeat at the cross became the greatest victory the world has ever known. Help me remember that if You could bring resurrection from a grave, You can certainly bring purpose from the unanswered questions in y own life.

May I continue to trust Your heart, even when I cannot trace Your hand.

In Jesus’ Mighty name,
Amen 💜

🌸 Reflection

Looking back over your life, can you identify a season when God rewrote your plans only to reveal something far better than you could have imagined?

Take a few moments this weekend to write it down.

You may discover that God’s faithfulness has been woven through your story all along.

✝️ Looking to Jesus

As you step into a new week, remember this:

Our hope isn’t found in perfectly executed plans.

Our hope is found in Jesus Christ––the One who sees the end from the beginning, whose love never fails, and whose purposes are always good.

Whatever this week held for you, you can walk into the next one with confidence because the same Savior who carried you today will be faithful tomorrow.
