Have you ever opened your Bible with every intention of spending time with God, only to feel overwhelmed by where to begin?
Maybe you’ve wondered if you should start in Genesis, jump into the Psalms, or read the New Testament. Perhaps you’ve read a passage and thought, “I have no idea what I just read.” If that’s you, I’m here to tell you that you are not alone.
See, the Bible wasn’t meant to intimidate us–it was given to reveal God’s heart to us! Studying Scripture does not require perfection or a theology degree. It simply begins with a willing heart that desires to know the Lord a little more each day.
Today’s Scripture
“Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” –Psalm 119:105 (CSB)
One of the biggest misconceptions about Bible study is that we have to understand everything at once. The truth is, spiritual growth happens one step at a time. Just as a lamp only illuminates the next few steps on a path, God’s Word often gives us the guidance we need for today before revealing tomorrow.
Here are five simple steps to help you begin studying the Bible with confidence:
- Begin with Prayer Ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom, understanding, and an open heart before you begin reading.
- Read Slowly Don’t rush through chapters just to check a box. Spend time noticing repeated words, questions, promises, or commands.
- Ask Simple Questions As you read, ask yourself:
> What does this passage teach me about God?
> What does it teach me about people?
> Is there a promise to trust?
> Is there an instruction to follow? - Write Down One Truth
Instead of trying to remember everything, write down one verse or truth that stands out to you. - Live It Out
Bible Study isn’t complete until it changes the way we live. Ask God to show you one practical way to apply what you’ve learned today.
Study Tip of the Week
Don’t measure your quiet time by how much you read. Measure it by how deeply God’s Word Changes your heart. Sometimes one verse, prayerfully considered, can greatly impact your life more than several chapters read in a hurry.

It’s easy to compare our spiritual journey with someone else’s, but God isn’t asking us to know everything overnight. He simply invites us to walk with Him one step at a time. Every moment you spend in His Word is an opportunity to know Him more deeply and allow His truth to shape your heart.
